What is Viagra?
Viagra is a medication prescribed from males experiencing an erectile dysfunction (ED). An erectile dysfunction is when not enough blood flows through the male sex organ during a sexual encounter. This is often caused by a physical disease, injury, or can be side effects from another drug. This concern affects about 30 million men in the United States.
Viagra increases the blood flow in the male sex organ to allow an erection to last long enough for a sexual encounter. Individual results may vary, but this drug usually takes effect within 30-60 minutes while sexually stimulated. This drug can be taken up to 4 hours before sexual activity, however medical attention is needed if an erection lasts longer than 4 hours as long-term injury may result in extreme adverse effects.

• Priapism- An erection lasting longer than 4 hours can permanently damage your male sex organ.
• Hearing Loss- Loss of hearing in the ears or decrease in noise can occur when taking this drug. Ringing of the ears and dizziness can also be an adverse effect.

Viagra May Boost Risk of Deadly Skin Cancer, Study Finds- According to NBC News article by Jonel Aleccia, “Researchers found that men who took sildenafil, best known as Viagra, were about 84% more likely to develop melanoma then men who didn’t take the drug.” This study shows that Viagra may increase the risk of melanoma because it affects the same genetic pathway allowing skin cancer to be more invasive. According to the researchers, “About 76,100 new melanoma cases are expected to be diagnosed in the U.S in 2014, and about 9,710 people will die, including about 6,470 men.”
Kentucky Lawmaker’s bill would require men to get wife’s permission for Viagra- According to Fox News, “A Kentucky lawmaker has put forward a bill that would require men to visit a doctor at least twice obtain a signed permission slip from their wives before they could obtain a prescription for the erectile dysfunction drug Viagra.” It is said that other state lawmakers have filed similar bills in regards to Viagra.
